2024-04-20 Intermodellbau Dortmund

We visited the supposedly largest model show in the world...
2024-04-20 11.03.30 --> My rail friend for about 50 years invited me to join him on a visit to Dortmund's Intermodellbau , which claims to be the world's largest model show. Plan01 --> The terrain of the fairground is humongous ... 2024-04-20 11.00.14 --> ... and we did get a bit of a walk before getting to the entrance. 2024-04-20 11.02.00b -->
031924 IMB24 Hallenplan-Legende LY lay.indd --> Halls 4 and 7 held the railway related stalls and displays. I picked out a few for this report. It is quite impossible to sum them all up. Petershaven --> Petershaven is a modest diorama depicting a small harbour. Focus is on landscaping rather than a lot of railway activity. 2024-04-20 11.56.46 --> 2024-04-20 11.56.48 --> The small sign reads: search the 10 moving objects.
2024-04-20 11.56.50  --> 2024-04-20 11.57.28  --> Atmosphere Metrique  -->  A wonderful roundy-roundy depicting three scenes from rural France connected by a meter gauge railway 2024-04-20 12.24.47  -->  The local market
2024-04-20 12.26.03  --> 2024-04-20 12.25.56  -->  Bird's eye view 2024-04-20 12.24.59  -->  In the countryside 2024-04-20 12.25.05  -->
2024-04-20 12.25.19 --> A Rhethian railway mallet hiding in the shadow station. I did not see it run despite waiting for it, so I can not show it on the layout itself. The crew of the diorama seemed to be more occupied with themselves than with the public. 2024-04-20 12.25.38 --> 2024-04-20 12.25.43 --> An absolutely gorgeous scene La Petite Ceinture -->
2024-04-20 12.38.57 --> 2024-04-20 12.39.15 --> 2024-04-20 12.39.17 --> 2024-04-20 12.39.55 --> Some houses were "open to the public". For a change there was no sex scene, the surprise of that has obviously worn off.
2024-04-20 12.39.57 --> Narrow streets, autumn leaves and all kinds of stalls 2024-04-20 12.40.11 --> 2024-04-20 12.40.16 --> 2024-04-20 12.40.20 --> Motive power was provided by two S100 ex-USATC (United States Army Transportation Corps), so the layout must be placed in the late fourties or earlies fifties.
2024-04-20 12.41.10 --> Passing the Seine with the yet unscorched Notre Dame in the background 2024-04-20 12.41.19 --> Somebody left some body 2024-04-20 12.41.32 --> The viaduct's arches house a variety of shops. 2024-04-20 12.41.40 -->
2024-04-20 12.41.45  --> 2024-04-20 12.42.24  --> 2024-04-20 12.43.28  --> 2024-04-20 12.43.35  -->  Oops the baker tripped..
2024-04-20 12.42.47 --> S100 halting below street level. 2024-04-20 12.43.55 --> 2024-04-20 12.45.49 --> The layout attracted crowds 2024-04-20 12.58.09 --> ...speaking of which, the show was well visited but not overcrowded. Here an overview of Hall 4. With some patience all stalls and layouts could be visited. There was a substantial presence of manufacturers. My friend visited the NMJ-stand where he met "old friends".
Various manufacturers --> 2024-04-20 13.34.57b --> Although intended as a demonstration layout for ESU's products this L-shaped layout certainly impressed by its simpleness and at the same time operational capabilities. Certainly a good idea for those with restricted space. 2024-04-20 13.35.28 --> ESU's exquisite 78 on demo-tour 2024-04-20 13.37.26 -->
2024-04-20 13.38.26 --> ESU was obviously very proud of this Ae 6/6. 2024-04-20 13.39.16 --> ESU - Class 78 in original Prussian livery 2024-04-20 13.39.20 --> and in the later Reichsbahn-guise (not entirely sharp, sorry) 2024-04-20 13.53.46 --> BEMO - This display almost makes you faint
2024-04-20 13.53.52  -->  BEMO 2024-04-20 13.55.18  -->  And a view on the BEMO demonstration layout 2024-04-20 13.56.37  --> 2024-04-20 13.56.51  -->
2024-04-20 13.59.13  -->  At Weinert's booth 2024-04-20 14.00.52  -->  Weinert - Again Spreewald (see album 2024-04-13).... 2024-04-20 14.01.08  -->  ....Hoya.... 2024-04-20 14.01.19  -->  ...and Plettenberg on one day!
2024-04-20 14.01.50  -->  A parade of Harz mallets in Weinert's booth 2024-04-20 14.02.57  --> 2024-04-20 14.03.02  --> 2024-04-20 14.03.06  -->
2024-04-20 14.03.09  --> Nordlandsbanen  --> 2024-04-20 14.24.26  -->  The whole layout in one view. It depicts a Norwegian theme. 2024-04-20 14.24.37  -->
2024-04-20 14.24.52  --> 2024-04-20 14.25.02  --> 2024-04-20 14.25.11  --> 2024-04-20 14.25.16  -->

DSC02604  --> DSC02605  --> DSC02606  --> DSC02607  -->
DSC02608 --> DSC02609 --> That's what you get in foreign languages. No doubt Hell is an ordinary town and goods handling is a perfectly normal business in Norwegian. But if you read it with an anglophone eye you get an entirely different image. DSC02610 --> DSC02611 -->
DSC02613  --> DSC02615  --> DSC02617  --> DSC02618  -->

2024-04-20 15.29.34  -->  The crowd was thick before this one so it was practically impossible to get a full broadview 2024-04-20 15.29.42  --> 2024-04-20 15.29.48  --> 2024-04-20 15.30.27  -->
